Posted in Baseball on November 26th, 2011 by adminYou may know that DeSoto High School is known for basketball and football, what with a litany of former players moving on to greater things starting with Byron Hanspard and including Mike Thomas, currently of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
You may not have known that DeSoto has been equally robust over the last several years pertaining to baseball. Using college baseball as a measuring stick, DeSoto has churned out more than 13 College or Pro baseball players since 2005.
Remember baseball is not football, so the probability of playing baseball beyond high school for a BLACK baseball player is no more than 1% of all black high school baseball players.
However, in the case of DeSoto, it speaks volumes that 13 of their BLACK baseball players have gone on to either college or pro ball in such a short time. Not only did they move on to the next level but look at the productivity, these guys made an impact on their teams and leagues:
